How do I clear the cache and cookies in my browser?

This article explains how to clear the cache and cookies in your web browser. This process is a common troubleshooting step that can resolve issues when using GEOH, such as slow loading, page formatting errors, and login problems. The cache stores temporary website files for faster loading, while cookies save your preferences and login information. Follow the instructions below for your specific browser:

Note: Clearing your cache and cookies may log you out of all websites that you currently are logged into or have logins for.  You will have to re-login to these websites including GEOH, so please make sure you keep your passwords saved within your browser or a password manager.

Chrome

  1. In the top-right corner of your browser, click the three-dot menu icon.
  2. Select Delete browsing data... from the menu.
  3. A new tab will open with a pop-up.  Select the Basic tab at the top.
  4. For the time range make sure you select All Time.  This ensures you clear all stored data that could be causing issues with GEOH.
  5. Make sure the following two options are checked:
    • Cookies and other side data
    • Cached images and files
  6. Click the Delete data button.
  7. Depending on how often this is done, it could take up to a few minutes to clear the data.
  8. After the data is cleared,  completely close and reopen your Chrome browser before retrying to access GEOH again.

Firefox

  1. In the top-right corner of your browser, click the three-line menu icon.
  2. Select Settings from the drop down menu.
  3. On the left-hand menu, select Privacy & Security.
  4. Scroll down to the Cookies and Side Data section.
  5. Click the Clear data... button.
  6. A pop-up window will appear.  Make sure the following boxes are checked.
    • Cookies and site data
    • Temporary cached files and pages
  7. In the When dropdown, select Everything.  This ensures you clear all stored data that could be causing issues with GEOH.
  8. Click the Clear button.
  9. Depending on how often this is done, it could take up to a few minutes to clear the data.
  10. After the data is cleared, completely close and reopen your Firefox browser before retrying to access GEOH again.

Safari

Clearing the cache and cookies in Safari is a little more complicated with a two-step process. Clearing the cache in Safari requires you to enable the browser developer options.  Please do not click on any option that is not outlined in this article as you could risk causing issues with your browser.

Step 1: Clearing Safari Cache:

  1. In the top menu bar, click Safari.
  2. Select Settings...
  3. Click on the Advanced tab.
  4. At the very bottom select the box that says Show Develop menu in the menu bar.
  5. Close the settings window.
  6. Click the new Develop menu that has appeared in your top menu bar.
  7. Select Empty caches from the dropdown list.

To clear your browser cookies:

Step 2: Clearing Safari Cookies:

  1. Click Safari in the top menu bar again.
  2. Select Settings...
  3. Click the Privacy tab (Hand icon).
  4. Click Manage website data.
  5. A new window will load showing all websites that have stored data.
  6. Click the Remove all button at the bottom.
  7. A confirmation pop-up will appear.  Click Remove now.
  8. Click Done.
  9. After the data is cleared, completely close and reopen your Safari browser before retrying to access GEOH again. 

Edge

  1. In the top-right corner of your browser, click the three-dot menu icon.
  2. Select Delete Browsing Data from the drop down menu.
  3. A new tab will open with a pop-up.  In the time range select All time.
  4. Make sure the following two options are checked:
    • Cookies and other side data
    • Cached images and files
  5. Click the Clear now button.
  6. Depending on how often this is done, it could take up to a few minutes to clear the data.
  7. After the data is cleared, completely close and reopen your Edge browser before retrying to access GEOH again.
